Sisters Kellie and Morgan of Kekemomo in Salt Lake City

Location:: Salt Lake City

Left: Morgan, Right: Kellie

kekemomo is owned by sister's Kellie and Morgan. The name is derived from their family nicknames: keke for Kellie and momo for Morgan. They created a business that elevates homes and bodies through incredible essential oil blends infused into customizable products such as candles and soaps.

For their products they've created unique oil blends, like their popular Fig and Bergamot, and have clean, modern reusable packaging. They currently have 8 candles, 8 wax melts, 4 lotions, 5 salves, and 5 soaps in their product line and use natural and local ingredients as much as possible.

One of the things they've recently started doing is custom packaging and scents. As a small business they enjoy having the freedom to customize product for their customers. They've been collaborating with The TomKat Studio to create a custom scent and product line for her store, and also recently started doing custom labels for weddings and showers.

Kellie said, "At the end of the day, my sister and I are really passionate about our products and working together; we still text or call each other after every sale. I think it says a lot that I put on our lotion every morning, apply our lip salve all day every day at work, and I always light one of our candles when I get home. We love each other, and we absolutely love what we do."

Check back soon for a post of each of them talking about their own style and where they gained their influence.

Location:: Provo Utah looking over Utah Valley

Suit:: Apartment 9 - Vocal Point concert wardrobe
Shoes:: Payless - Vocal Point concert wardrobe
Tie:: From his Mother-in-Law

Meet Jake the incredible tenor from BYU's Vocal Point when they competed in The Sing Off competition season 3. Jake defines his style as classic, clean cut and slim fit for his casual everyday wear, GQ-esque for formal wear. "How you look is the first thing that comes across to someone if you don't know them [so with my style] I like to be able to relate to as many people as possible." Spending some time in California for the Sing Off, Jake dove into the world a skinny jeans, a place he'd never thought he'd go and he also started to see how style can become a way of expressing oneself and started to take what he wore more seriously. The group didn't get to keep anything they wore from the competition but upon their return to Provo they did a series of concerts in which they were able to keep some of their suits. When he sings he usually wears a slim-fit suit, button down shirt and no tie.

about the utah threads project

I've always been an admirer of those who have their own sense of self, in who they genuinely are deep down, what they're passionate about, what they find compelling, beautiful, or interesting. Our body is our own blank canvas, new and bright every single day. What we put on our canvas says so much about us. What we wear becomes our own personal artist-statement about who we are or what we feel and where we place ourselves in society.

As an artist and photographer I've set off to explore this very thing in the people around me, helping discover the talents, arts, local shops and individuals that contribute to the community. This isn't set to be a fashion blog as much as it is a blog about people and what they choose to say about themselves through their Threads.

So here's my Thread statement for what it's worth::
I love being a woman. I'm all about birth, babies, heels and hips and I want that to show in what I wear. I like to feel a bit glamorous, gentle and subtly 'ruling the world' when I walk out the door, you know, the-hand-the-rocks-the-cradle kind of stuff. This doesn't mean I look glamorous everyday at any given moment, more often than not I'm in my PJs, let's be real here. Though, when I get 'dolled' up, I want it to mean something, not only to me, but to those around me. I want it to say, there's a woman, an artist, and a mother with my favorite accessory (aside from scarves) my husband and my son by my side.

- McKenna

So, what do your threads say about you?

Contact me to talk about being featured. We'll schedule a time and place to meet in a Utah/Salt Lake County location that suits you,  you'll wear what defines your style best, I'll ask you a few questions and a week or so later you'll be featured on Utah Threads. Cool, eh?

(I'd love to help anyone who is looking to promote their small business, etsty shop, blog, photography etc. Please specify if any of those things apply to you.)

This is Annalee, she's an outdoor enthusiast, fine art major, one of The Unnamed Artists, and a fountain of knowledge. In one word Annalee would define her style as functional. She wear a lot of layers and a variety of comfortable clothing to support her active lifestyle and the fact that though she owns a car, she chooses to ride her bike everywhere she goes, and yep even in the winter. She's hard-core guys. Most of her style is "firmly rooted in snowboarding," as she instructs courses at Sundance during the winter season. "I know how to dress in the winter, in the summer, I don't know what I'm doing," she says.

Location:: Just off the North West Entrance of the Real Salt Lake Stadium
Sandy, Utah
(totally random, diamond-in-the-rough location)

Sweater and Necklace:: Windsor
White Sweater:: BC - Nordstrom
Bracelets and Rings:: Flee Market
Wedding Ring:: Rock Mountain Diamond
Jeans:: Forever 21
Shoes:: Walmart (Booyeah!)

Meet Jenessa, a makeup artist, instagrammer and health enthusiast. Jenessa would describe her style as relaxed but feminine. She's drawn to big and baggy sweaters and a lot of white and black. Much of her wardrobe inspiration is based on her mood and how she's feeling that week or day. Jenessa desires that what she wears shows her as a strong, confident and moral woman. In what she chooses to wear she desires to represent herself in a way that isn't "hoochie" because she feels she doesn't need to show her body off to get attention. She also likes to express her self through unique, weird pieces, as seen by her necklace but she LOVES the basics. Simple, with a little quirk here and there.

Glasses:: Retrospecs & Co at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas
Jacket:: Lane Bryant
Blouse:: Dress Barn
Skirt:: Torrid
Boots:: She has no idea where she got these
Handbag:: Michaels Kors borrowed from her mom
Necklace:: J Crew

Meet the wonderful Ellie, art-major, member of The Unnamed Artists, baby-doll head collector, pop culture-music-history guru and a great friend of mine. Ellie helps out at the Velour live music gallery so it was the perfect location for her feature. Ellie would define her style as Vintage-inspired and draws great influence from the glorious 50s. She says it's difficult as a curvy woman to dress in 'actual' vintage clothing so she gets creative to incorporate the look she loves. She's a very bold and expressive person and that shows in what she chooses to wear from graphic tees to bold prints and bright colors. She says her style in clothing also reflects what she creates in her artwork; bold, graphic and colorful.

She grew up loving to shop along side her Mom, found that she loved clothes but clothes didn't always love her back. As she grew up she discovered her own sense of style and comfort level letting the outside match the inside. Working at Velour has really helped her with confidence and choosing edgier clothing and taking more "fashion risks." In turn it has really helped boost her self confidence.

Location:: UVU GT Building

Coat:: Thrift Store Find
Scarf:: Hare Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork
Necklace:: Rainbow Gathering at the Trading Circle
Dress:: H&M
Ring:: Online somewhere
Boots:: Minnetonka boots from the Indian Trading Post

This is Dacey, a very talented Fine Art Major at UVU, cat lover, and wearer of every hair color in the books. Dacey's been told from a few that her style is a mix between 'cowboy and punk' or a conjunction of 'hippie and hip-hop' so if you throw all of those things together you can come up with something that possibly defines her style. She said she would never describe her style as one specific thing because she takes influences from many things. She has always been attracted to the south-west and desert as far as colors and nature has a big influence on what she wears. Black definitely has a constant place in her wardrobe as well, partly because it's easy but also because it's timeless.
